Clifton’s Print Finishers in Walthamstow London have just completed the installation of their second Muller Martini Pantera PUR/perfect binder.

The company, owned and run by Tim Clifton and Steve Meeks, chose to invest in the new Pantera after seeing for themselves the higher flexibility and capacity their first Pantera binder brought to the company. This arrival of the new machine will enable them to cope with the increased demand for short and medium run work with quicker turn round times and will increase capacity due to faster make ready times and higher running speeds.

The new Pantera is equipped with a 14 station gathering unit, all with the latest signature recognition system, a criss cross delivery unit on the gatherer to complement Clifton’s new Layflat  and Sewn binding production, a Merit S Trimmer and Uno stacker. All components are complete with the latest  Amrys software which allows fully automated set up through the book data centre.

The Pantera comes with optional polyurethane (PUR) glue system, of which Managing Director Tim Clifton said: “We offer PUR as standard and have done now for the last 5 years it produces a far superior book and with new glue technology allowing quicker drying times it makes sense, especially when binding so many variant stocks.”

Clifton’s employ 18 staff over 2 shifts and carry out the majority of their work for clients within London and the Home Counties.

Clifton’s first moved into the perfect binding arena 7 years ago after it bought trade finisher Books A Bound and decided on these improvements as part of their continual investment and diversification strategy for the company.
